The Federal Government has declared Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th May, 2021 as Public Holidays to mark this year’s Eidul-Fitr celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja on Monday.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful on this occasion and called on all Nigerians, at home and abroad to use the period of this year’s Eidul-Fitr celebration to pray for peace, stability and economic transformation in the land.

He assured that the resolve of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to end the scourge of crime and criminality in the country and restore peace to every nook and cranny of Nigeria was sacrosanct.

“This administration will not be deterred in its efforts, until every Nigerian and resident of the country, is free to move around without fear of any threat to his/her life and property. We are therefore putting necessary measures and strategies in place to strengthen the stability of the country as well as ensuring economic prosperity of our dear nation,” he emphasised.

Nigeria cannot afford another war; we are better together - Tinubu warns against secession

The National Leader of All Progressives Congress, (APC,) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu says he has nowhere to go if Nigeria breaks up. The former Lagos State governor said he believes that Nigeria will not break up. Tinubu, who spoke at a special Ramadan prayer on Sunday, warned that Nigeria cannot risk secession and another civil war. He stressed that the country was better as a united entity, adding that Nigeria was yet to recover from the Biafra civil war. There have been agitations in the South-East and South-West for the country’s break-up for separate nations – Biafra and Oduduwa respectively. Tinubu, however, discouraged it, saying Nigeria cannot afford another war, considering the lasting effects Nigeria Civil War of 1967-1970 has had on the country. According to Tinubu: “God will not allow Nigeria to experience war. If we say Nigeria should separate, people should remember what war caused in Sudan and Iraq. Such war does not end in time. We are yet to recover from the civil war. We are better together. I have nowhere I am going. Whoever has experienced war in the past will not pray for such. Nigeria will not separate; it’s not acceptable to us. Our prayer is for prosperity and more wealth for the country.”

He reassured residents and commuters of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Expressway of the government’s commitment to ensuring their safety.
Governor Makinde also provided 9 patrol vans to the task force.
“I have all the commanders here. The Commissioner of Police, Director of DSS, and Civil Defence Commandant is here. They are all working round the clock to ensure that the people of Oyo State are safe and secured.
”We only need to encourage them and that is why I am here personally to let them know that we are all together in this. To the commuters, all of this effort is to ensure that they are able to go about their businesses without thinking about insecurity.”
The special security task force comprises members of the Nigerian Police Force, the DSS, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
According to Governor Makinde, the task force inaugurated at the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Expressway is a pilot project and if it goes according to plan, it will be replicated at all entry and exit points to Oyo State.
In his words, “This particular place has been in the news for kidnappings and people coming across the border to perpetrate evil, hence the need for the task force.
“This is a pilot project. We want to secure all the entry and exit points to Oyo state and this is the border with Ogun State. If everything works well, we will replicate it at all entry and exit points.
Makinde noted that with the facilities provided to the task force, the operatives will be able to monitor everything going on at the borders and alert the necessary authorities if they notice anything strange.
“Also, we have a CCTV camera out here that is being monitored from the control room and if anything is going on here, they can alert us and the security agencies can deal with the situation appropriately.
“But for us, if we know people coming in and we can trace them or if any crime is committed inside the state and they want to run, we can activate the process whereby they can be apprehended at the entry and exit points.
