Collective Responsibility can end HIV Transmission – Access Bank GMD,Herbert Wigwe

Dr. Herbert Wigwe, Group Managing Director, Access Bank Plc, says ending HIV in Nigeria is possible when Nigerians take responsibility collectively. Wigwe said this at the launch of 100 million dollars HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria in Abuja. He urged the private sector to rise up to the occasion, by working in collaboration with government in areas of ownership in sustaining the HIV response. "However, the original emergency Plan to fight AIDS must transform into a Sustained Response that prevents new infections and ensures those on treatment stay on treatment. The era of sustainability demands that Africans take responsibility and ownership for the end of AIDS in Africa," he said. Wigwe, who said that Nigeria currently has the third largest HIV epidemic statistics worldwide, said over 80 per cent of the funding had been mainly from international donors. According to him, the Nigerian private sector currently contributes about 2% of total funds allocated to HIV. He urged the private sector to collectively join hands in the ownership of the funding to eradicate HIV in Nigeria, asserting the readiness of Access bank to supporting improved health system. "Access Bank is not known for complacency. We are known for our drive for financial and economic growth, for leadership in national health issues. Particularly the national response to COVID, and we are known for our commitment to sustainability, especially relating to strengthening our national health system. With less than half of people living with HIV have access to treatment or adequate care, Access Bank partnered with other private sector organizations here from the Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS, (NiBUCAA.) To educate our staff, raise public awareness and support individuals living with HIV/AIDS." Wigwe explained that the bank has also conceived of this national HIV Trustfund, as a N50 billion private sector-led mechanism to pool our resources to provide significant sustainable inputs required to scale up the impact of the AIDS response in Nigeria. He expressed the commitment of Access bank and other private sectors to ensuring that mothers were tested and drugs provided to end mother to child transmission. Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, in his own submission, said that it was a collective responsibility of all to bring the number of persons living with HIV to zero. Dangote said that the money to be realized in the launch would be channeled to getting all pregnant women tested and treated. He called on the private sector to work with the public sector at equal frequency with a bid to end HIV in Nigeria. Mr. Osagie Okunbor, Managing Director, Shell, also pledged commitment of Shell to the funding to end HIV in Nigeria.

Olori Naomi Silekunola announces ‘divorce’ from Ooni of Ife..Why She left the House of Oduduwa

The three years old marriage between Her Majesty Olori Shilekunola Naomi and Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has crashed.

Prophetes Naomi, announced her separation from the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II.

In a statement posted on her verified Instagram handle and Facebook page on Thursday, she announced an end to the three-year marriage.

According to her, she tried to make the union work but said the monarch’s public identity is at variance with “his true self”.

The fair-skinned ex-queen wrote, “I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on. Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.”

The evangelist then declared, “Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the close of a chapter. Today, I am a mother to God’s unique gift. I am no longer a slave to my thoughts of perfection. I, at this moment, announce that I shall no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince.”

Responding to some allegations, Silekunola said that her “decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen”.“I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.

“The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him.

“I have never been pregnant all my life before Tadenikawo; my son is my first ever pregnancy with medical reports to back it up. The girl who is said to be my daughter is my niece.”

The Ooni previously suffered a marital breakdown in 2017 when he split from Edo-born Zaynab-Otiti Obanor, whom he married as a monarch on March 16, 2016. Obanor’s marriage to the king lasted for 17 months before the separation.

He later married Silekunola in 2018 and the marriage produced a son, Tadenikawo.

The 47-year-old monarch also had a daughter with Omolara Olatubosun as a teenager. Olatubosun gave birth to Princess Adeola Ogunwusi but of recent, there have been counter-claims between the Ooni and Olatubosun over who was responsible for the upbringing of their daughter....Details Later

She further explained, “As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple, I was the only married wife to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue.

Primate Ayodele’s Prophecy on Nigeria’s Taliban Comes To Pass In Yobe

When Primate Ayodele released a prophecy about Nigeria’s Taliban-like sect, many thought he wanted attention or just spoke out of his human knowledge, little did they know that God was speaking through him as HE normally does about the affairs of nations.

The name ‘Taliban’ became popular when they took over Afghanistan from the government in a well-coordinated attack against the president of the country even though Primate Ayodele warned long before this unfortunate incident came to pass.

Shortly after this operation, Primate Ayodele released a prophecy that he foresees a Taliban-like sect taking over some states in the north and he specifically mentioned those states. He mentioned Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, some parts of Benue and Kogi states.

These were his words

‘‘’I am seeing a sect like Taliban coming up Africa, they are coming in a big form to attack African countries like Burundi, Mali, Central Africa Republic, Benin Republic, Chad, Niger Republic and Nigeria.’’

‘’It will be very serious, they are already gathering together and they want to take over some states in Nigeria, namely; Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, parts of Benue and Kogi. This is a warning the government should work on immediately. I’m seeing them planning, strategising on attacking Africa and Nigeria’’

It’s barely a month since he made these prophecy and we are already seeing the operations of a Taliban-like sect in these states. Just last week, an Islamic group like Taliban; ISWAP operated in Borno state and destroyed one of the major high tension in the state, putting them into darkness.

Just yesterday, the same ISWAP operated in Yobe state, laid ambush for military men and killed several citizens in an unfortunate attack. As we can see above, Borno and Yobe states are part of the states Primate Ayodele mentioned. Funny enough, they followed each other sequentially as he mentioned them.

The serious attack Primate Ayodele talked about in his prophecy is definitely going to be bigger than this but just like Taliban started with some attacks here and there, ISWAP has started too. If the government fails to listen to these prophecy and do the needful regarding security, it may be a disaster for them.

30th Convocation! We are sure of our products, they can defend their certificates...OOU VC,Ganiyu Olatunde boasts

Ahead of the 30th convocation of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago Iwoye, the Vice Chancellor,Prof. Ganiyu Olatunde, has advised universities in the country against indiscriminate award of first-class degree to their students, saying a situation where some universities would have a significant number of their graduating students bagging such is becoming worrisome.

This is just as he clarified that students deserving of such grades should not be denied.According to the erudite Professor, graduates should be able to defend the certificates and degrees held by them.

“A situation where you have a university graduating a few hundreds students and among them, over one hundred bag first-class degrees leaves room for probing questions. No one is saying that students who deserve first-class degrees should not be given. Hard work, dedication and commitment should be rewarded.

“However, the manner some universities go about placing students in that category should be checked. We are graduating 6,257 and only 55 are in the first class category. We are very sure of our products and they can defend whatever certificate and degree they possess,” he stated.

Giving a breakdown of the graduating students who are from the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 sessions, Olatunde said 991 are in the second class upper category, 2,738 in the second class lower level, 1,925 in the third class category, 217, pass category and 135 in the unclassified category.

He added that 140 would bag postgraduate diploma, 486 master’s degree and 103 to get doctorate degree.

As part of the activities to mark the occasion, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede would deliver the convocation lecture titled “Your future is in your hands”, while a convocation play written by Prof. Femi Osofosan would also be staged

Listing some of his achievements since he came on board about five years ago, Olatunde said massive infrastructural development had taken place, while staff and students welfare was given a boost.

He also noted that research was not neglected, and cited the anti-COVID syrup developed in the university

“The syrup has been found to be very effective and we took it to the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, for the necessary scrutiny. Operational issues are the factors delaying final decision on it,” he explained.

Fuel Subsidy Removal Echoes Primate Ayodele’s Prophecy On Hardship In Nigeria

You may decide to call him a prophet of doom or an analyst but you can never take away the fact that everything he says comes to pass no matter how long it takes. Nigerians are facing a serious crisis because they failed to listen to Primate Ayodele’s warnings especially in 2019 when he said Buhari’s second term will not be palatable for Nigerians but instead of listening, they gathered to call the man of God unprintable names.

Since 2019 when he released these warnings, Nigerians are yet to recover from economic problems, massive increase of prices of commodities, insecurity, sickening electricity supply, corruption and several social vices. Instead of getting better, we keep experiencing worse things all because we failed to listen to Primate Ayodele’s warnings.

As a matter of fact, the presidency are aware that the warnings of Primate Ayodele have come to pass and they have tried to shut him up by sponsoring publications against him but God can never be silenced, this man of God has continued to gain grounds with his spiritual warnings that keeps on coming to pass.

Before we got into 2021, Primate Ayodele released prophecies in December 2020 that the new year will be filled with several troubles for the country and one of the things that will be rampant is economic meltdown, kidnapping and insecurity. He advised the government on what to do so these won’t happen yet they never listened, we all know the level we are now as a country because of the government's obstinacy.

While we thought all was over, news broke out yesterday that the federal government will stop paying fuel subsidy in 2022 and replace it with N5,000 transportation support to be paid to 40 million poor Nigerians. As a result of this, it was announced that Nigerians will have to buy petrol for N340/ltr in 2022.

Meanwhile at different times this year, Primate Ayodele released a prophecy that he foresees petrol price getting to 240 and above. In June 2021, He made this statement about petrol prices even though it was greeted by so much criticism, here we are living the reality of that prophetic revelation.

Just two weeks ago during a live service in his church, Primate Ayodele told his congregation to pray, prepare for 2022 because he foresees hardship in the year and specifically mentioned an increase in petroleum products.

Also some weeks ago, Primate Ayodele in an interview with Tribune newspapers revealed that Nigerians should expect more hardship in 2022. With the announcement that fuel subsidy will be removed, is this prophecy not going to come to pass? It definitely will.

Primate Ayodele is a prophet who doesn’t need the validation of any political leader, those in government, his prophecies are speaking for him despite the fact that the government has tried countless times to discredit him but none of their gimmicks have worked against him.

We all saw how his prophecies played out in the just concluded Anambra gubernatorial election. He had prophesied since 2020 that the election victory will be between APGA and PDP, that’s exactly what happened during the election.

Ijebu Ode residents groan as Banks shut down over 'notice of attack’

It is no more news that commercials banks in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun state, have  refused to open for business over fear of being attacked by armed robbers.

Reports has it that banks have since last Monday down tools following letters allegedly sent to some of them by suspected robbers.

It was further gathered that the fear of the bankers were not unconnected with the way some of the banks were robbed some years ago, leading to loss of lives .

The banks have insisted on not opening their branches except the Ogun State Government assist the police with armoured personnel carriers to be mounted close to their branches.

Residents of Ijebu-Ode,have been travelling to places like Sagamu, Abeokuta and other places, within the state, to deposit or withdraw money.

A Point-of-Sale operator lamented that the development portends “great danger” for him and others in the business in Ijebu-Ode.

“We withdraw money from banks to pay our customers and we also deposit in the bank when we have large sums of money in our kitty.

“If the banks are not opening, it will negatively affect us. In fact, it is affecting me already. I’ve been going to Sagamu to make withdrawals. It is bad.”

When contacted, the State Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the development .

Oyeyemi said the bankers were just entertaining fear where there is none.

He said, ” I don’t see any reason for that action . Honestly , there is no reason for it at all . The police called them and assure them of their safety. The police are posted everywhere. They saw the presence of the police. They are now claiming that the Armoured Personnel Carirer there has fault. Even, if Armoured Personnel Carrier has fault, is it not the police that will still operate it ?”

How Primate Ayodele foretold closure of Illegal Universities in Nigeria

There was a recent declaration of 58 Universities illegal and their immediate closure by the federal government

NUC on its official website stated that the affected universities were closed for violating the Education (National Minimum Standards, etc.) Act CAPE3 Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

This development however confirms the prophecy of popular prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele who revealed in his annual book of prophecy titled Warnings To The Nation (2021/2022) edition that he foresees that the NUC will review the activities of some universities and proscribe them for operating illegally

‘’NUC: National University Commission will do a review of some of the universities documents and they will go after some institutions and proscribe them for operating illegally. I foresee that their accreditation of universities will change and there will be new board and the government will prosecute the commission. Let them pray not to be taken to court’’

The first part of the prophecy which talks about proscribing universities for operating illegally has been fulfilled. There are other parts of the prophecies that has to do with the government prosecuting the commission and court actions against the commission is yet to come to pass.

These are serious warnings released by the man of God some months ago. Apart from this, several prophecies in this book has been fulfilled, which shows that of a truth, Primate Elijah Ayodele’s annual book of prophecy is divine.

President Buhari visits Late Ernest Shonekan’s family in Lagos

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, paid a condolence visit to the family of Chief Ernest Shonekan, late Head of the defunct Interim National Government of Nigeria.

The President was earlier in Abeokuta in Ogun, for the inauguration of some projects by Gov. Dapo Abiodun.

The President arrived at the Ikoyi residence of Shonekan at 4:40 pm with high profile dignitaries and security.

Buhari was in the company of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, his Ogun counterpart, Mr Dapo Abiodun; and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee among others.

During the condolence visits at the residence, there was a heavy presence of security operatives, police, military and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in and around the premises.

No fewer than 20 patrol vans of police and military police as well as Armoured Personnel Carriers were stationed around the residence at Ikoyi in Lagos.

Shonekan died in Lagos on Tuesday at the age of 85.

He succeeded Gen. Ibrahim Babangida to become the Head of the Interim National Government (ING) from Aug. 26, 1993 to Nov. 17, 1993.

The ING was constituted in August 1993 by Babangida in the aftermath of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Shonekan was, however, overthrown in a palace coup led by the late Gen. Sani Abacha, who was the Defence Secretary in the Shonekan-led ING.

Prior to his brief political career, Shonekan was the chairman and chief executive of the United African Company (UAC) of Nigeria. (NAN)

Know The Law: Police officers enforcing stop-and-search must be in uniform or present ID

Law enforcement agencies, including the police are expected to maintain law and order within the ambits of the constitution and respect for fundamental human rights. Hence, when they act in contrast to the law, it often sparks public criticism.

In Nigeria, the modus operandi of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has often come under intense public scrutiny, especially on the issues of arrest and detention.

On the issue of search/raids by the police, there have been several reports of abuse, harassment and extortion of citizens.

Although police officers have the right to conduct a search on persons, public and private places, and vehicles when they are authorised to do so or suspect a crime, the method of enforcement in some instances appears to violate citizens’ rights.

In some cases, police officers conduct a search on commuters as well as enter public places to carry out raids without the appropriate means of identification.

Some police officers even wear casual clothes to conduct raids.

WHAT IS THE POSITION OF THE LAW?

The Nigerian Police Act 2020 gives police officers the power to arrest, detain, and search a person or vehicle when there are “reasonable grounds of suspicion” of an offence.

Section 49 (1) states that, “a police officer may exercise the power to stop and search in any: “(a) place the public or any section of the public has access, on payment or otherwise, as of right or by virtue of express or implied permission; or

“(b) other place to which the public has ready access at the time when he proposes to exercise the power but which is not a private residence.”

Section 49 (2) states a police officer may detain and search any person or vehicle where:

“(b) reasonable grounds for suspicion exist that the person being suspected is having in his possession; or conveying in any manner anything which he has reason to believe to have been stolen or otherwise unlawfully obtained.”

It also clearly states the conditions that should be met and the conduct of the police officers while enforcing a search.

Section 50 (4) of the act states that, “for any police officer to exercise the power to stop and search, he shall be in uniform or
visibly wear a valid police identity card”.

This means that without the police uniform or a visible identity card, a police officer does not have the power to exercise a search.

“(a) his name and the name of the police station to which he is attached;

“(b) the object of the search; and

“(c) his grounds or authorisation for undertaking the search.”

The act also clarifies the action that should be taken before a search is conducted by a police officer.

Section 50 (1) states that, “where a police officer is exercising the powers under section 51 of this Act, he shall be before carrying out the search, question the person about his behaviour or his presence in circumstances, which gave rise to the suspicion.

“If the person to be searched has a satisfactory explanation which makes a search unnecessary or other circumstances come to the attention of the police officer that make the search unnecessary, no search may take place.”

Section 51 (1) states that, “reasonable effort shall be taken to minimise the embarrassment that a person or the
person whose property is being searched may experience”.

The act also explains the exception of “reasonable grounds for suspicion” to conduct a search.

Section 54 states that, “the following shall not be grounds for reasonable suspicions;

“(a) personal attributes, including a person’s colour, age, hairstyle or manner of dress;

“(b) previous conviction for possession of an unlawful article; or

“(c) stereotyped images of certain persons or groups as more likely to be committing offences.”

Nigeria Air Force recants, admits ‘erroneously’ bombing Yobe villagers

The Nigeria Air Force has finally admitted to carrying out the bombing at Buhari village in Yunusari Local Government of Yobe State where 10 people were killed and over 20 hospitalised.

It had denied responsibility for the bombing on Wednesday with many attributing the incident to neighbouring Nigerien Air Force.

The Nigeria Air Force, in its initial response to reports of the attack, had said: “This tweet is false in its entirety. The NAF last conducted a mission into Yobe State (Not Yunusari LGA) on 5 September 2021 and it was an armed recce. No bomb or missile was even expended. Thanks.”

But less than 24 hours after its denial, the Nigeria Air Force said its operatives carried out the bombing.

In a statement by its spokesman Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Nigeria Air Force on Thursday said: “Following intelligence on Boko Haram/ISWAP movements along the Kamadougou Yobe River line, an aircraft from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai was detailed to respond to the suspected terrorists activities in the area along the Nigeria/Niger border at about 0600hrs on 15 September 2021.

“The aircraft while operating South of Kanama observed suspicious movement consistent with Boko Haram terrorists behaviour whenever a Jet aircraft is overhead.

“Accordingly, the pilot fired some probing shots. It is important to state that the area is well known for continuous Boko Haram /ISWAP activities.

“Unfortunately reports reaching Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Headquarters alleged that some civilians were erroneously killed while others were injured.

“Initial release denying the involvement of NAF aircraft was based on the first report available to the Air Component which was subsequently forwarded to NAF headquarters that civilians were bombed as the aircraft detailed for the mission was not carrying bombs.

“Therefore a Board of Inquiry has been set up to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the incident.”

Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni commiserated with families of the deceased.

In a statement by his Director General, Press Affairs, Mamman Muhammad, the Governor also called for a full investigation of the matter to forestall future mistakes.

Governor Buni directed his Special Adviser on Security Affairs to liaise with the Nigeria Air Force and the Multi National Joint Task Force, to unravel the unfortunate Air strike on the innocent villagers.
